Description:

On 1st August 2010 Aachen’s research project „TemRas“ (telemedical rescue-assistance-system) started. As one out of seven projects of the medical technology cluster “medtec-in.nrw”, TemRas is sponsored by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the State of North Rhine Westphalia (MIWF) for the next three years. TemRas continues the efforts of the former project “Med-on-@ix”, to increase the supply quality in emergency medical aid through consequent research of chances to use telemedicine.

With the help of the telemedical rescue-assistance-system, paramedics should be able to contact an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) physician for instant aid. Through an information technological network between rescue service and hospitals, emergency care will be improved.

In a developing time of two years, an optimised and extended system will be realised, beginning in 2012, five selected rescue service areas in North Rhine Westphalia should have a telemedical equipped ambulance and should be connected to the tele-EMS physician competence center (TPCC).
